About OTHRAVAR

OTHRAVAR — Norse folk and Viking music project

Origins

OTHRAVAR is a Norse folk and Viking music project. It grew out of a love for the old Northern stories and the sound of early medieval Scandinavia. The idea is simple: take the myths and sagas of the North and turn them into songs people can listen to today.

Musical Vision

The songs are sung in Old Icelandic, the closest living link to the language of the sagas. The music brings together folk instruments, deep drums and layered voices. It is meant to sound old and grounded rather than polished, so the words and the mood carry the story.

Mythological Inspirations

Every release draws on Norse myth and history: the gods of Asgard, the giants, the nine worlds of Yggdrasil, and the sagas of the Viking age. The lyrics stay close to the source material, so a song about Ragnarök or the sons of Ragnar is built on the real stories rather than invented fantasy.

Discography Journey

The catalogue grows one release at a time. The Nine Realms maps the nine worlds, JÖTNAR tells the myths from the giants' side, MYRKR turns to the darkness before creation, and FORNǪLD follows the sons of Ragnar. Singles fill in single figures and moments between the albums, and new music is on the way.
