Ginnungagap, Ginnungagap Í tómið fæðist logi Múspell vaknar, eldur skín Ginnungagap opnast Heimur verður til Í tómið fæðist logi Múspell vaknar, eldur skín Ginnungagap opnast Heimur verður til Fyrir tímann, ekkert var Bara tóm og þögn og myrkur Svo kom neisti, fyrsti loginn Surtr sefur, en hann vaknar Í tómið fæðist logi Múspell vaknar, eldur skín Ginnungagap opnast Heimur verður til Í tómið fæðist logi Múspell vaknar, eldur skín Ginnungagap opnast Heimur verður til Ís og eldur mætast hér Ymir fæðist úr þessum eldi Heimarnir níu, allir bíða Loginn brennur, aldrei deyr Eldur, eldur, fyrsti eldur Tómið fyllist, heimur rís Í tómið fæðist logi Múspell vaknar, eldur skín Ginnungagap opnast Heimur verður til Í tómið fæðist logi Múspell vaknar, eldur skín Ginnungagap opnast Heimur verður til Ginnungagap... Loginn lifir...

Ginnungagap, Ginnungagap In the void a flame is born Múspell awakens, fire shines Ginnungagap opens A world comes into being In the void a flame is born Múspell awakens, fire shines Ginnungagap opens A world comes into being Before time, nothing was Only void and silence and darkness Then came a spark, the first flame Surtr sleeps, but he wakes In the void a flame is born Múspell awakens, fire shines Ginnungagap opens A world comes into being In the void a flame is born Múspell awakens, fire shines Ginnungagap opens A world comes into being Ice and fire meet here Ymir is born from this fire The nine worlds, all waiting The flame burns, never dies Fire, fire, the first fire The void fills, a world rises In the void a flame is born Múspell awakens, fire shines Ginnungagap opens A world comes into being In the void a flame is born Múspell awakens, fire shines Ginnungagap opens A world comes into being Ginnungagap... The flame lives on...

Story Behind The Song

Before the nine worlds existed, there was only Ginnungagap — a yawning void bordered by the fire of Múspellsheimr in the south and the ice of Niflheimr in the north. Where the heat and the frost met, the ice began to melt, and from the meltwater the first being, the giant Ymir, took shape. The album's opening track follows this exact moment: the first spark in the emptiness, the birth of fire before the world itself existed.
